Get Ready-Prepare For Roofing Day
- Prior to roofing, consider a termite inspection and treat if needed.
- If you are thinking of installing solar panels, install them after you have put on your new roof.
- If you have solar PV panels, consider cleaning the panels which will improve their effciency. If you live in a rainy area, cleaning mold and mildew from the panels will help.
- Take down picture frames; secure or remove fixtures from walls and ceilings.
- Prior to start day, roofing materials will be delivered. Please provide a staging area and clear a path for large vehicles and crew.
- Move potted plants under eaves.
- Move your vehicles, and advise your neighbors to park far away from the site to avoid falling debris.
- Roofing is loud. Consider kenneling pets and spending the estimated time away from your home. Let your neighbors know about your roofing project so they may consider their options during demolition and installation day.
- If repairs to the roofing structure is needed, work will be done after demolition of the old roof.
- Installation of the new roof will take place when repairs are completed.
- Your Murakami Roofing crew will clean up the outside of your home and remove roofing materials.
- Post-roofing is a great time to do exterior house paint.
Maintaining Your New Roof
- Inspect your roof at least once a year, especially after heavy wind and rainstorms.
- Don’t walk on the roof!
- Check for missing shingles/broken tiles. Use your phone to take photos to enlarge and view from the safety of the ground, or use a drone to take overhead shots. Binoculars are another choice.
- Clear the gutters of leaves and debris. Clear clogged drains to prevent water pooling which will cause damage to your roof.
- Periodically clear the gutters of debris to prevent water puddling and seepage which will cause damage to your roof.
- Trim nearby trees to prevent leaves from falling and clogging the gutters.
- Make sure rain downspouts don’t empty directly onto another part of your roof!
